This 8-page booklet prepared by the Task Force on American Innovation gives a brief review of some of the most important breakthroughs that resulted from research supported by the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the Department of Defense.

Some of those breakthroughs include: the Internet, lasers, fiber optics, dopplar radar, synthetic rubber, global positioning, magnetic resonance imaging, speech recognition, lithium batteries, and computer aided design.   (download report)
